I analyzed the responses to daily updates in Palestine in the months following October 7th, 2023, posted by
@letstalkpalestine on Instagram. The only way the interface would allow a user to respond was through emojis. I found that replying with or or was absurd, yet revealing of the use of social media during times of strife, both pointing to personal action and the power media giants, like Meta, have in displaying or censoring bloodied bodies.
In my research and visualization, I found that more devastating and lethal events caused by the IOF would occur near or on U.S. holidays, and correlatively, engagement would also plummet. This shows that the IOF purposefully schedules heightened violence when the world (or at least the U.S.) is not watching.
